All week long, stories have been flying around about a woman in Chicago who was arrested after allegedly taping New Moon in the theater. For those unaware of the situation, here’s a little rundown:
a 22 year old Chicago woman was arrested during a family birthday party for her older sister at a movie theater. The woman, Samantha Tumpach, took pictures of her family, filmed bits of their evening which included singing happy birthday to her sister, and took a short bit of footage from the film which added up to about 3 minutes.
Samantha was seen filming by theater employees and was arrested shortly thereafter. She originally faced one count of criminal use of a motion picture exhibition (a Class 4 felony) and up to three years in prison.
After hearing about the ordeal, Chris Weitz wrote in a statement to the Chicago Sun Times stating that even though the film is not his priority, he would do anything in his power to help dismiss charges.
